Rural mailboxes – where can you find them?

When we say mailbox, the first image that comes to our mind is a typical shaped mailbox mounted on the front lawn just outside the fence by the side of the road. This common image is actually what we call a rural mailbox and it is one of the most unsafe mailboxes there is. This is because they are mounted on roadsides where cars and other vehicles can freely crash into them. Mailboxes of this type are located on a rural mail route and are stricly placed on the right side of the road through which the local postman can deliver or take mail with ease. Commonly, these mailboxes are piled or huddled together on the side of the road like gnomes on a lawn. It is usually made of non-corrosive aluminum or electro-galvanized steel. Mailboxes made of these strong materials will reduce the probability of breakage and damage.

The rural mailbox is grouped into three types. They are usually around 75 to 100 dollars. The first type is heavy duty rural mailbox. This mailbox is very durable, strong and sturdy, as the name implies. It is usually made of heavy duty steel or aluminum. It is hammered out to form a thick durable aluminum surface and is constructed with a strong aluminum front door and back coat. It is also polished with poly-urethane powder coat finish to prevent corrosion and wreckage. It also comes with sealed joints that prevent rain and snow from going into the mail.

The next type of mailbox is the deluxe rural mailbox. These mailboxes are usually those that have luxury painted all over it. Similar to heavy duty rural mailbox, it is made to be extremely sturdy and wreckage free. These mailboxes also ensure the complete safety of your mails and sometimes come with a newspaper holder.

The third type is the antique rural mailbox. Made with the same goal of a sturdy and secure mailbox, the antique rural mailbox is sometimes made of brass or copper that is especially coated with special chemicals that will protect it from being tarnished or from damage caused by strong weather conditions. Because it is antique, it usually looks like the typical old mailbox that is a great reminder of the olden times.

Since rural mailboxes are prone to getting vandalized or robbed, nowadays, they come with heavy duty locks that only open with a specific combination of three keys. They are also made larger to ensure that it can hold heavy mails and large packages.
